Spied: 2012 Lamborghini Aventador Roadster!

Thanks to our contacts here on Teamspeed, we have already reported to you that the Aventador LP700-4 has already been “confirmed” as a Roadster by the United States EPA, and it is set to debut next week at 2012 Geneva Motor Show. Today our trusty Teamspeed spies in Northern Sweden prove 100% what we have been reporting with these slightly out-of-focus but revealing shots of the new Aventador Roadster.

Judging from the images the new roadster will feature a carbon fiber pop-off style roof, that will be lifted off and replaced manually, but never the less any doubters of this car seeing the light of day are now put to rest.

The Aventador roadster will be powered by the same monstrous 700 horsepower V-12 as the coupe, and the sprint to 100 km/h will only take you a mind-blowing 2.9 seconds with a top speed at 350 km/h.

What’s even better than a Ferrari? A lighter, more powerful Ferrari, of course. And that’s precisely what Maranello has announced with a mid-cycle refresh for what is perhaps its least appreciated product: the California.

The upgraded model destined to debut at the Geneva Motor Show benefits from 30 more horsepower and 30 kilograms (66 pounds) less weight. The former, now up to 490 hp, is achieved through the fitment of a new exhaust manifold and tweaking the ECU, while the latter comes courtesy of ever-evolving aluminum manufacturing processes. The result is a 0-62 mph run in 3.8 seconds with a modified torque curve.

Along with the upgrades, Ferrari is also offering a new Handling Speciale package that packs magnetorheological dampers (similar to those initially developed for the 599 GTB Fiorano) that can more rapidly adjust the suspension on the fly, coupled with a quicker steering ratio and stiffer springs.

The 458 Italia is Ferrari’s eagerly awaited replacement for the F430. With the incredible popularity and performance capabilities of the F430, living up to it’s notoriety is no easy task, so the Italia certainly has some big shoes to fill. Luckily, the 458 represents a new level of engineering and technology from the incredible team at Ferrari, so it has a few bragging points of its own. Incredible styling, aerodynamic performance suitable for a race car, and Ferrari’s new 7-speed dual clutch transmission are just a few of the technological advancements that help set the 458 apart from the rest of the exotic car crowd. So if you’re one of the lucky few that have gotten your hands on a set of keys to a 458, you should know that you’re basically driving a race car that was built for the street, but with one missing ingredient, race car sound.

Practically being neighbors with Ferrari certainly has its perks, so Tubi Style was lucky enough to get their hands on a 458 Italia long before many of us even got the chance to lay eyes on one. The result of that early development time is the amazing Tubi mufflers you see above. The first thing you’ll notice is that the mufflers are crafted in true Tubi fashion, using only the highest grade polished stainless steel for the mufflers, as well as all mounting points and hangers. The second thing you’ll notice is that the Tubi system retains the use of vacuum actuated valves to control the flow of exhaust under different driving conditions. At idle and low speeds, the 458′s exhaust exits only from the center pipe of its unique triple-exit center exhaust. Under acceleration the flappers open up and allow full exhaust flow from all three pipes, the center as well as two sides. And lastly, there’s the trademark Tubi exhaust sound that has almost become synonymous with Ferrari. Even though the 458 suffers from a restrictive factory exhaust because of heavy European and US sound regulations, the Tubi system is engineering and designed to let the howl of the 458′s 9,000 rpm redline to be heard by all.

Tubi Style exhaust systems have become legendary in the world of high performance vehicles for their light weight, beautiful polished finish, unparalleled sound, and substantial performance gains. Audi’s R8 V10 GT comes from the factory equipped with a valved exhaust system to keep the exhaust sound within acceptable levels during stop and go driving, while allowing it to open up under load to improve both exhaust flow and sound. For those looking for a more aggressive exhaust note from their R8 at all times, Tubi offers their V10 exhaust system without the silencing valves. The absence of valves allows the system to flow freely at all times and produces a much more familiar exhaust note, specifically very similar to that of the R8′s older brother, the Lamborghini Gallardo.

All Tubi Style exhaust systems are manufactured from the highest quality T304 stainless steel and feature a beautiful polished finish throughout. The R8 V10 system also includes adjustable, mandrel-bent outlets to allow perfect alignment with the factory bumper.

A hardtop convertible Ferrari? Yeah, you’re gonna want a pretty blonde to cover that one. But this isn’t the California. This is the 458 Spider. Right, better make it Vicki Butler-Henderson then.

VBH, you see, isn’t some boulevard-cruising talk-show host. Sure, she’s presented her share of reality television shows, like the UK version of The Biggest Loser, but she’s also a certified racing driver and one of the hosts on Fifth Gear. Sounds to us like the perfect personality to test Maranello’s latest follicle stimulator, and lucky for us, that’s just what she’s done.

See Vicki channel her best Clarkson and quite nearly come to climax on camera as she drives her new favorite supercar around the Italian countryside.

The California is a departure from what most people expect from Ferrari. It’s their first ever front-engine direct injection V8, the first to feature Ferrari’s 7-speed dual clutch transmission, their first retractable hard-top convertible, and one of the first cars on the road bold enough to use two large vertically stacked exhaust outlets rather then the traditional horizontal layout. Even with all these new developments, the California is still distinctly Ferrari. And just like other Ferrari models, the California falls victim to strict European and North American sound regulations that limit the volume of the exhaust. To combat this, Ferrari controls the sound of the exhaust using valves which open and close under certain conditions. But let’s face it, every Ferrari looks and performs better then the majority of cars on the road, so it should sound better too. The exhaust wizards at Tubi Style have developed their non-valved stainless replacement mufflers to bring out the signature Ferrari tune you expect to hear playing as the car drives away. The mufflers are made from lightweight polished stainless steel and feature Tubi’s proprietary free-flowing design to create the perfect balance of aggressive sound and drivability. Fitment is perfect, and you’ll even notice a small increase in power and responsiveness thanks to the excellent design of the muffler internals.

The All New Ferrari 458 Spider!

The latest exotic two-door to wear the Cavillino Rampante is the Ferrari 458 Spider…
How’s it look? How do you think it looks? The already gorgeous coupe has been given a styling kick that also turns the aural pleasure knob to 12 (11 is so last year).

Sure, the 458 coupe will be the choice of those seeking adventure on the track. The 458 Spider, however, will provide the perfect soundtrack to a life well lived. The affluent among us will have to live in Europe to get first crack at the car, which goes on sale there in the spring of 2012. Ferrari faithful here in the U.S. will have to wait until the end of 2012 to put a droptop 458 in their garage.
